SOUTHWEST BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION OF THE DEAF
SouthWest Basketball Asssociation of the Deaf
In 1948, the SouthWest Athletic Association of the Deaf host the first basketball regional tournament in Dallas, Texas. Four team were:
-Dallas
-Houston
-Little Rock
-Jackson.
Houston emerged as the first champion of the SWAAD, going to Philadelphia for the American Athletic Association of the Deaf that year. The SWAAD, during ensuing years, with its new and different officers injecting new ideas and methods, has continued to progress and grown to its present lofty stature.
In October 2002, the SouthWest Basketball Association of the Deaf founded after being divided from the SWAAD. The SWBAD held the first basketball tournament in Lafayette, Louisiana in Spring of 2003.
The SWBAD represents the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, and the environs of Memphis, Tennessee. And the SWBAD also is affliated under Untied States of America Deaf Basketball (USADB).
